Dr Stangos
 specializes in Vitreo-Retinal disorders that require either medical or surgical treatment, such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), diabetic eye disease, retinal vascular occlusions, uveitis/ocular inflammation, macular holes, epiretinal membranes, retinal detachments and ocular oncology.

Dr Stangos is a Swiss-trained Ophthalmologist. He was a resident at the Department of Ophthalmology of the University Hospitals of Geneva (2001-2004) and the Jules Gonin Eye Hospital of Lausanne (2004-2005). As a Research Fellow at the Laboratory of Ocular Vascular Diseases at the Medical School, University of Geneva (2006-2007), he studied the pathophysiology of Retinal Vascular diseases and explored new therapeutic paradigms. He served the Greek Armed Forces as an Honorary Staff Ophthalmologist at the 412 General Military Hospital and in parallel completed his Medical Doctorate at the Medical School of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece (2007-2008).

Dr Stangos was further trained, at a Consultant level, in the United Kingdom. He was a senior Medical Retina Fellow at St. Paul's Eye Unit, Liverpool (2008-2010) and a Vitreoretinal Fellow at Kings College Hospital, London (2010-2011) and Moorfields Eye Hospital, London (2011-2013). In 2014, he returned to Geneva where he works at the Centre Ophtalmologique de Florissant and the Eye Clinic of the University Hospitals of Geneva. He is also affiliated to the Clinical Eye Research Center of the Rothschild Foundation in Geneva where he is actively involved in ophthalmic research.

To date, Dr Stangos has authored or co-authored more than 28 papers in peer-reviewed journals (pubmed) and 22 chapters in medical textbooks. He is actively involved in numerous multicentre clinical trials in Switzerland, Greece and the United Kingdom. He is a reviewer in major Ophthalmic Journals (i.e. American Journal of Ophthalmology, Archives of Ophthalmology, British Journal of Ophthalmology, etc). He is a member of the European Retinal Society (Euretina), the American Society of Retinal Specialists (ASRS), the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), the European Association for Vision and Eye Research (EVER), the Swiss Society of Ophthalmology (SSO), the Medical Association of Geneva (AMGE).

Dr Stangos is FMHFEBO and GMC certified. He is based in Geneva, Switzerland. He speaks Greek, English and French.
